The thought of this week filled me with dread as, for me, the word "trek" conjures up images of Skiddaw, the Lake District and generally being cold, tired and grumpy. Luckily, this time i traded the Pencil Factory for numerous Buddhist Temples, located on the 19-peak Chicken Foot Mountain, named after the shape of the peaks. To be honest, this mountain was more of an enormous national park, so we didnt "trek" as such, but walked up about a million steps. We're already at quite a high altitude here, and the peak which we walked to was about 4000m above sea level, so i was panting at times but still managed to lead the group for most of the way. As Chinese people seem to be obsessed with eating, we were given packed lunches made up of steamed buns, sweet bread with coconut in it (which we were told today contains meat... not sure how), rice bread and other carby goodies. We then also stopped to have lunch on "sticky rice street" which is apparently famous for the "sticky rice". Unfortunately they dont mean savoury sticky rice, they mean the sticky rice flour dumplings which we had on new years day and which i still hate. The gooey texture is un-chewable like glue and doesnt even taste nice. The chef/waitress/restaurant ...
